NIST and FIATECH Joint Workshop on
The Intelligent and Automated Construction Job Site Testbed
Location: National Institute of Standards and
Technology, Gaithersburg, MD
Dates: July 29 and 30, 2008
Duration: 1 ½ days

The Building and Fire Research Laboratory at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in conjunction with the
FIATECH consortium are pleased to invite you to take part in the first workshop aimed at designing an Intelligent and Automated Construction Job Site (IACJS) Testbed.
MOTIVATION
An IACJS testbed was identified by the FIATECH
Capitol Projects Technology Roadmap development team as one of the strategies needed to help achieve the vision of the construction job site of the future.
The IACJS Testbed will provide a neutral and representative environment that is accurately monitored and properly controlled, in which to test and demonstrate new construction technologies, processes, and methods. Having such a capability will help accelerate industry adoption of new ideas that can improve safety, cut costs, and reduce construction schedules. The IACJS testbed is a critical element in the process of developing and verifying metrics and tools that will help achieve the much-needed breakthrough improvements in construction productivity.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
- To bring together stakeholders from the construction industry, academia, and research organizations with experience in developing or using new construction technologies, processes, or methods aimed at improving construction productivity.
- Understand the purpose of testbeds and how they can help the construction industry achieve breakthrough improvements in productivity.
DESIRED OUTCOMES
- Identify a draft set of requirements (capabilities) for an IACJS Testbed.
- Identify an initial set of high-impact target technologies, processes, or methods to evaluate within the IACJS Testbed.
- Identify industry partners interested in using the developed testbed capabilities.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
- Construction industry professionals and executives
- Academic researchers in construction
- Other researchers with interests in construction
