Visualization Research Featured on CNN
On Jan. 10, 2004, a science news program on CNN called “NEXT@CNN” had a segment describing advances in scientific visualization at NIST. The program described how new three-dimensional scientific visualization tools, developed at NIST, can play an important role in helping scientists carry out their research, whether it be for checking the correctness of computer simulations, illustrating concepts for educational purposes, or developing a framework for understanding data. The program featured work resulting from a collaboration between the Scientific Applications and Visualization Group of ITL (Judy Devaney, Steve Satterfield, and Terence Griffin) and Nicos Martys and Edward Garboczi of the Materials and Construction Research Division. The computer simulations shown concerned the rheology of concrete and fiber-reinforced cement-based materials.
This work is an important component of the BFRL HYPERCON program and also has received partial funding from the Center for Advanced Cement Based Materials.
