BFRL Monthly Highlights
March 2003 April 2002 May 2002 June 2003 July 2003 PAST Highlights
EVAP-COND Available on BFRL’s Web Site
EVAP-COND, a software package for simulating air-to-refrigerant finned-tube heat exchangers designed for heat pumps and air-conditioners, was released in January 2003 and placed on BFRL’s Web site (www.bfrl.nist.gov/info/software.html). Equipment manufacturers now will be able to expedite optimized designs of finned-tube evaporators and condensers working with new generation refrigerants. A graphical user interface, designed for Windows operating systems, facilitates input of complex heat exchanger design data and provides a convenient platform for reviewing detailed simulation results.
EVAP-COND uses NIST’s Standard Reference Database 23 (REFPROP) for representation of thermophysical properties of refrigerant. The current release includes the 10 most relevant fluids, including atmospheric ozone-safe HFC refrigerants and natural refrigerants. The final phase of EVAP-COND development was sponsored by the 21st Century Research Program of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Institute, with co-funding provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.
