System Requirements

BridgeLCC is designed to run in Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, and XP on a computer that has at least a 600MHZ Pentium-level processor, 64MB of RAM, 30MB of available hard disk space, and a video card that supports 1024x768 resolution.

Downloading the Software

BridgeLCC is packaged as a self-extracting file.

Download BridgeLCC 2.0 (9/24/03) (18.7 MB)

There is no charge for the use of BridgeLCC 2.0.

Installation

Double-click the downloaded file. This will create a set of files; double-click on the file "setup.bat."

Be sure you have at least one printer installed and selected as the default printer; otherwise BridgeLCC may not print reports. If at any time you have a problem running BridgeLCC, be sure to check the solutions page for a solution to the problem.

Uninstalling

To remove BridgeLCC from your computer, run "Uninstall BridgeLCC" from the Windows Start Menu. Make sure that you first copy to another location any "*.LCC" analysis files you need to keep.

BridgeLCC Version 2.0 currently does not open files created in BridgeLCC Version 1.0.

Supporting Publications

Several publications provide useful information about BridgeLCC and the life-cycle costing of highway bridges. Novice users of Windows software and of life-cycle costing should read the BridgeLCC Users Manual listed below. The other publications help describe the concepts underlying the life-cycle costing of new-technology materials such as high-performance concrete and FRP composites.

These electronic publications need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to be viewed. Paper copies of the publications can be obtained by contacting J'aime Maynard, Automation Assistant to the Office of Applied Economics.

pdf document BridgeLCC 2.0 Users Manual (1.49 MB pdf)
This manual describes how to use BridgeLCC and provides example analyses. It also includes a detailed appendix of the life-cycle costing methodology and the cost scheme used to classify costs. Once BridgeLCC is installed, this PDF file can be found in your BridgeLCC directory.

pdf document The Economics of New-Technology Materials: A Case Study of FRP Bridge Decking (.4 MB pdf)
This report formed the basis for developing BridgeLCC. It describes the cost methodology and uses it to compare the life-cycle costs of three new fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bridge decks with a conventional-strength concrete deck.

pdf document Life-Cycle Costs of New Construction Materials (.2 MB pdf)
This journal article describes the life-cycle costing methodology only.

BridgeLCC is designed to be consistent with the ASTM standard practice for measuring the life-cycle costs of buildings and building systems (E 917). This standard can be obtained from the American Society for Testing and Materials.
