Fire Research Division
Image from NIST fire modeling software. Workshop on Fire Reconstructions – Use of Computer Models to Simulate Real Fires
April 3, 2007
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
100 Bureau Drive Gaithersburg, MD 20899 USAOverview
An increasing number of structure fires are being simulated or reconstructed using computer fire models such as the NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). This workshop will address the current state of fire reconstructions and discuss challenges to improving future fire reconstructions. This will include, but is not limited to, the topics of material properties for model input, ignition criteria, fire spread, experimental work, display of model output, and post fire assessments/investigations. The overriding objective of the workshop is to prioritize research needs and build working collaborations among the participants.
NIST staff, grantees, experts from federal agencies, representatives of code developing organizations, fire and building professionals, and experts from academia and industry are invited to attend.
The workshop will be held on the NIST Campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and will commence immediately preceding the 2007 Annual Fire Conference. There is no cost to attend the workshop, however, you must register in advance. To register for the event, please send the following information to Nelson Bryner at nelson.bryner@nist.gov.
